Hey I saw that reblog about racism and I never ever want to support artists who white wash and misrepresent characters who mean a great deal to me (and lots of other people). Is there anyway you could provide a list of the artists who shame the fandom so I could steer clear from them and refrain from supporting them?

I know of a few folks who have been putting together lists (with receipts to back it up) and there has been talk about creating a blog to help fans like us to avoid these types of people in the fandom.

As far as I know, there isn’t an easily accessible “list” out yet, and I feel ya, because I would like that too. I mean, I’ve got my Tumblr Savior “blacklist” but I hate to just throw names out there without the receipts and context behind them. For now, it’ll take some time and detective work, but I’ll try to head you in the right direction.

And before anyone starts crying “bullying!” The intent of pointing out these posts and people is so that we can avoid them. So, do not harass them. Simply do whatever it is you’d like to do so you can avoid following/liking/viewing/sharing anything of theirs. Unfollow them, block them, delete any posts of theirs you may have shared, blacklist their name if you use something like Tumblr Savior. Whatever it is you’d like to do to avoid them.

If I may say, avoiding problem people is a great way to help “clean up” the fandom. By unfollowing someone, by blocking them, you’re removing yourself from their audience. You’re making their audience get smaller, thereby making their voice quieter. Which is excellent.

So, yeah, if anyone is maybe feeling helpless, like “what can I do??”, that’s something you can do. If you’re shy or non-confrontational or anxious or whatever. It’s quick and easy and painless. Unfollow, block, delete, blacklist.

You’ll have to do some sifting to see who has done/said what and decide for yourself who you’d like to avoid, but here are some tags to look through:

And there are a ton more blogs where you can find discussions of racism in fandom, where people are giving brilliant responses to some really racist behavior and remarks. I just linked up a bunch that I follow and admire and that also had some tags to filter posts specific to racism in the fandom. Following PoC who are active in fandom will likely bring more across your dashboard regularly too.

If anyone needs browser extensions:

I use both of these. I use Tumblr Savior for blacklisting, but New XKit does it too. See what works for you. Unfortunately there’s nothing really that’ll work with the Tumblr mobile app.
